Frequently Asked Questions

  • Typically, Chiropractic Care is initiated at the onset of pain. However, it is not uncommon for our Doctor to see chronic pain patients who have had symptoms for a long time prior to seeking care. Many patients also chose to see our Chiropractor for the prevention of pain and to maintain good health. In short, it is never too soon or too late to start Chiropractic Care at Muscle and Joint In Home Chiropractic Care.

  • Treatment frequency varies depending on the type of condition, duration of symptoms and severity of symptoms present. The number of treatments needed to help someone fully recover can range anywhere from 2 to 12 visits over a period of anywhere between 1 week to 3 months. To help reduce the number of treatments needed, Dr. Desai equips her patients with home care therapies including home exercise plans, nutritional advice and ergonomic counseling.

  • We do not accept health insurance. Payment is collected at the time of service.

The high overhead of running a traditional brick-and-mortar Chiropractic office compounded with concurrent low health insurance reimbursements forces traditional Chiropractors to have a high volume practice. This includes seeing 20-40 patients PER DAY, most days of the week in order to cover costs. Unfortunately, as a result the patient doesn't always receive the focused care they deserve.

A highly focused, effective, low volume healthcare model that puts patient care above-all is only possible under two conditions. One, eliminate the process of health insurance reimbursements and two, limit how many patients a doctor sees per week.

At Muscle & Joint Chiropractic we refuse to compromise the type of care that is delivered to our patients due to the aforementioned factors that have nothing to do with a patient’s health. To that end, our Doctor only see 2 to 3 patients PER DAY. You deserve the most focused care and a happy, balanced and energized Chiropractic Physician to deliver it.

  • Chiropractic care is a safe, effective and evidence based form of complementary and alternative medicine that has been around for over 100 years. Doctors of Chiropractic Medicine deal in the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal conditions (i.e. conditions involving nerves, muscles, bones and/or joints) via the use of spinal manipulation. Chiropractic care at Muscle & Joint Chiropractic is different. In addition to the traditional spinal manipulation, other modalities of care including manual therapy (which includes clinical massage), exercise therapy, physiotherapy and nutrition counseling are also integrated in order to help relieve pain and other symptoms. Chiropractic care is also used for the early prevention of certain conditions such as certain forms of arthritis, headaches and muscle tension.

  • Chiropractic care is effective for the treatment of a wide variety of neuromusculoskeletal and health conditions for patients of all ages, including:

    Headache

    Neck Pain

    Low Back Pain

    Mid-back Pain

    Sciatica

    Tennis/Golfers Elbow

    Muscle Sprains and Strains

    Carpal Tunnel

    Hip Pain

    Whiplash injuries from car accidents

    Pregnancy Related Low Back Pain

    Dizziness/Vertigo

    Work Injuries

    Herniated/Bulging/Slipped discs

    Knee Pain

    Sports Injuries

    Plantar Fasciitis

    Arthritis

Chiropractic care is also effectively used for the pro-active prevention of conditions such as arthritis, chronic pain, spinal degeneration and in order to promote overall wellness.

  • To understand how chiropractic care works, you must have an understanding of the body’s nervous system. Your body’s nervous system works as a two way information highway. It relays messages from your brain to your muscles, organs, joints – every body part imaginable and tells those parts what to do and how to do it. The nervous system also takes information from nerves, muscles, organs and the outside world back up to your brain. Nerves travel through, under and around various muscles, joints and connective tissues throughout the body.

If the aforementioned muscles, joints and/or connective tissues that the nerves travel through become injured, overworked, inflamed or biomechanically impaired, they can disrupt nerve function by compressing the nerves or by changing the chemical balance of the environment that the nerve exists in. When this occurs, it disturbs the connection between body and brain. This disturbance can manifest itself as: pain, spasm, weakness, numbness and/or tingling. Chiropractors work to alleviate symptoms of pain, spasm, weakness, numbness and/or tingling, wherever they may be in the body, by addressing the root cause of the nerve disturbance.

At Muscle & Joint In Home Chiropractic Care and Physiotherapy, this is accomplished by a thorough evaluation and diagnosis that is followed by a treatment plan typically consisting of chiropractic spinal manipulation, manual therapy (which includes clinical massage) and exercise therapy (stretching and strengthening).

  • Dr.Desai has performed over 10,000 spinal manipulations with no adverse events. Chiropractic care is safe for infants, children and adults of all ages. The risks associated with Chiropractic care are minimal. Some people may experience soreness, stiffness or achiness in the area that was worked on after the first one or two treatments. The soreness, stiffness and achiness resolves within 24-48 hours. This is not an unusual side effect. Chiropractic care has less risks associated with it than taking certain over the counter pain medications. Dr.Desai reviews benefits, risks and alternatives to treatments with every patient during their initial visit.

  • The “popping” sound you may hear during an adjustment is caused by a change of pressure gradients within the joint, which results in gas bubbles being released. Much like popping a balloon with a needle, it makes a loud sound but there is minimal, if any, discomfort involved. The sound does not always occur with every adjustment and is not the primary purpose of the adjustment.
